Long Beach Island has been woven into my family’s story for as long as I can remember. My parents, Mike and Marrianne Hurley, first fell in love with this island in the 1970s. After a few sun-soaked visits, they decided they couldn’t stay away — buying their first home on Tebco Terrace in 1976, then later moving to Scott Drive.
In 1995, as my dad was preparing to sell his business in North Jersey, my parents took a leap of faith that would define our family’s future: they purchased the motel. By 2003, they made LBI their full-time home and proudly chose to live here yearround — no snowbird life for them.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of our family owning the motel, a milestone that feels especially meaningful as we honor my parents’ memory. Both of them passed away within the last year, but their spirit, warmth, and vision are still present in every corner of this place. We carry their legacy forward with love and deep gratitude.
One of my parents’ greatest joys in owning a shore motel was that our family never needed to be convinced to visit — we were already here, already in love with everything this island offers. Generations of us have grown up making memories on these beaches.
Our motel sits directly across from the beach entrance in the peaceful residential neighborhood of Holgate, at the southern tip of Long Beach Island. The bay and playground are just one block away — the perfect spot to catch the island’s most stunning sunsets. Even in winter, we embrace all that LBI brings… snow flurries included.
We’re just two miles south of Beach Haven, making it easy to explore without ever having to move your car during the summer months. Guests can hop on the island shuttle service, and the township provides beach “gators” — high-powered golf carts — to help anyone needing assistance crossing the dunes between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.
We remain a small, family-run business, and we take pride in knowing many of our guests by name — and welcoming them back year after year. If you’re thinking about a visit to Long Beach Island, we hope you’ll stay with us and become part of the extended family my parents always dreamed this place would create.
